Frequently Asked Questions
Is Semillitas the Right Fit for Your Family?
At Semillitas Bilingües, we see children as seeds, full of potential, ready to grow into beautiful and strong flowers. Just like seeds, children thrive when nurtured with care, love, and patience.
What ages does Semillitas serve?
Semillitas is a mixed-age, home-based early childhood program serving children from infancy through the early preschool years. Our mixed-age environment allows children to learn alongside one another while being supported according to their individual stage of development.
Does my child need to speak Spanish before starting?
Not at all. Many of our Semillitas begin without speaking Spanish. Our maestras introduce the language naturally through relationships, routines, play, songs, stories, and everyday experiences, allowing children to become familiar with Spanish over time.
Is Semillitas a bilingual program?
Semillitas is a Spanish-immersion program rather than a bilingual program. Spanish is the primary language used by our maestras throughout the day. Children are welcome to communicate in the language that feels natural to them as they become increasingly familiar and comfortable with Spanish.
What makes the Semillitas environment unique?
Semillitas is intentionally small, home-based, mixed-age, and relationship-centered. Our intimate setting allows children to become deeply familiar with their maestras, their environment, and one another while experiencing the consistency and thoughtful care of an established early childhood program.
How does learning happen at Semillitas?
Learning is woven naturally throughout the day through play, exploration, conversation, movement, relationships, routines, and thoughtfully guided experiences. Our maestras create opportunities for children to discover, practice new skills, problem-solve, and build upon their natural curiosity.
What does a typical day look like?
Our days offer a familiar rhythm that includes play and exploration, teacher-guided experiences, Spanish immersion, outdoor time, meals, connection, and rest. While our rhythm is predictable, we also leave room to respond to the needs and interests of the children.
How many maestras are in each classroom?
Each classroom has two dedicated maestras, with additional support available through our support maestra and trained substitutes.
Do you provide meals?
Yes. Semillitas provides select meals and snacks throughout the day, while families provide their child’s lunch. Specific meal information and dietary accommodations are discussed during enrollment.
Do children participate in projects and special experiences?
Yes. Our Semillitas enjoy creative projects, seasonal experiences, celebrations, and special moments throughout the year. We focus on each child’s experience and participation in the process rather than expecting a particular finished product.
How do you communicate with families?
We value close communication and partnership with our families. Families receive ongoing communication about their child’s experience at escuelita, along with program updates and glimpses into classroom life.
Do you offer tours?
Yes. Tours give prospective families an opportunity to experience our home-based environment, learn more about our approach, and get a feel for everyday life at Semillitas.
Is tuition listed online?
Tuition, schedule options, current availability, and additional enrollment details are shared with families during the inquiry process.
Do you have a waitlist?
Availability varies by location, age, and schedule. When an immediate space is not available, families may have the opportunity to join our waitlist for future enrollment.
What days is Semillitas closed?
Semillitas follows an annual calendar that includes holidays and scheduled program breaks. Our calendar is shared with families early in the enrollment process so they can plan ahead.
